Laughter

Laughter is a funny thing.  Pun intended, sorry.  Although it is possible to have a good laugh on your own, it is generally a social thing.  I am certainly capable of having a proper giggle fit, but am aware when I do so that I am capable of stopping if I choose to.  The purpose of laughter would seem to be social, and I have never had a giggle fit on my own, have you?
The last giggle fit I had was when I showed my bro-in-law the encyclopedia dramatica 'offended' page (link is to old version - they seem to have taken down all the images).  He scrolled down through the images, mostly unpurterbed (he's prob not NT either!) and then stopped at this one:

We both started giggling...

notme - it was actually your previous blogger picture that reminded me of this incident and thus inspired the post :) do you really not find the picture funny? i'm giggling now just thinking about it!

well, i'm glad I inspired the photo Res~ :P

To answer your question, all i see is a dead animal. I don't even know what's going on with its face. Has it been messed around with to make it look like that? i don't get it. It's not nice, whatever it is.

There is a great deal of humor in darkness, my dear. Forget it is a creature for a moment. Fancy it a doll, will you?

Button cap eyes popping out, and a silly tongue to match, making a comical face.

Now appreciate that humorous expression in the same way you would were it alive instead, and not a corpse.

Silly, isn't it?

Some people look at humor and see the grim. Some look at the grim and see humor. It is best to see both. To be otherwise is to be a blind fool

i can see the funny side it's just i thought they'd manipulated it to look like that. that's all.

Hm, it seems my comment from the other day fell victim of the spam-hammer, ResCo.

But okay, I'll make another one. :)

Notme,

I think you're looking at the wrong things here. Yes, they manipulated it, clearly.

But to tell you the truth, I didn't laugh either. I'm strange that way, I find very little funny that most people think is funny. It's the same with Comedy and comedians.

I think I can say it this way: Staged fun just don't sit right with my laugh-muscles. But spontaneous situations I can find hilarious while most people would be too overwhelmed by fx. some serious aspects.

Maybe it's part of my having had to control myself in these kinds of situations from an early age, because, y'know: What would people THINK if they saw Zhawq laugh at someone who was run over by a car because he fell in such a comical fashion, and what would that lead to of CONSEQUENCES for Zhawq did he let them see him laugh!"-kinda thing.

If you often enough stop yourself from really having fun in a naturally funny situation it just may become hard for you to let go later on when you have the choice to laugh or not.
Still, I don't have any trouble laughing if I know no one is watching me, so...

But could that be it in your case, maybe?

Just attempting at a possible explanation. *s*

zhawk, i left a couple of comments on your blog recently that ended up bouncing back. so i guess we're even!
do you laugh at often publicly frowned upon times these days? i would rarely hold in a laugh if it wants out - not much makes me laugh so i make the most of it when it happens! :)

Zhwarq, my best friend went to hospital after an overdose years ago. My first reaction was to laugh. Call it nervous laughter or whatever, (i think a skewed ability to process something) but i laughed, so did another girl, whilst everyone else reacted shocked and solemn. I laugh when I'm told NOT to laugh, i laugh in the most inappropriate places! lol. I think i'll do a blog on it since everyone else has! i'm such a copy-cat.
I've just seen funnier things than that picture, that's all. I can understand why it's funny though. It just missed me.

i wouldn't find it at all funny if a dead human body had been made to look all funny either. I just find it extremely disrespectful and cruel. That's all.
